Trip 14kms departure 10am locks 12 of 396
Jogged up to the boulangerie where I was enticed by the sight of an absolute beauty of a loaf of bread dominating the counter shelf. I just said "I will take that please" seconds later, I was on the floor.
€5.50 s'il vous plais.
I returned and horrified the crew with the news but we both knew it was worth every cent and breakfast was magnificent.
We left our lovely spot at 10.
The trip to Pont du Pany was a short but very enjoyable trip through some lovely locks, one of the cottages was unusually owned by our eclusier and he was instantly tending his garden whilst the lock filled, he had been greeted by a very happy Alsatian who cam and greeted us with a more wary approach. The eclusier was justifiably very proud of his cottage garden.
We caught up with a barge which had left Pont du Pany at 9 and whilst they were tied up for lunch we slipped past and waited in the next lock where we had a lovely prawns and avocado salad with a glass of rose.
The barge pulled in behind us, owned by nick and Diana from dorset, they were celebrating their 42 wedding anniversary and were hoping to stop at fleury for a couple of days as their boat was called fleurie after the Burgundian wine of that name. The scenery was beautiful as we drifted up the ouche valley with the ouche river running parallel alongside the canal, making for a wonderful cruise.
On arrival at fleury, we found the bank side moorings to be heavily silted and I left the steel barge to it and decided to move on up to Pont du Pany. As we exited fleury, I spotted a delightful little bar canal side and had already decided it was going to be a nice evening for a bike ride.
We nestled into a nice bankside setting and moored with the stakes. Took a lot of effort to hammer them in but we felt it was worth it for the view.
After drinks and a relax on the poop, we set off on the wheels of steel retracing our journey. It was a very pleasant evening and we joined the two resident dogs on the patio. The Alsatian and giant shnausser had beds made up and were making the most of them. I was just happy to be here.
Back at Doucette we spent the evening on the poop watching the sun go down drinking gin and tonic and I knocked up the spaghetti bolognese which sadly was a bit of a disappointment. We decided the legumes farce was not for us. I did manage to clear my plate however and retired full and content.
