Tuesday 14th August Auxonne

After the heavy emotion of yesterday, we slept late and intending to have my belated birthday lunch at the st Jacques restaurant, we decided to skip breakfast save some fruit.

We decided on a choreing morning and got some vacuuming and cleaning chores done to build an appetite for lunch. We strolled across and decided to sit under the trees al fresco with a nice view down the river for a change. Lunch was superb. I had jambon persille Collette had a salmon mouse starter. Collette had filet of pork in a honey sauce which was sublime whilst I had bavette steak in a reduced red wine sauce. Creme brûlée of course for the crew and fromage pour moi. Cafe and a bottle of burgundy aligote.

We decided it was just too nice to set off now and why did we not take advantage of the electric and get some more chores done. I decided to have a look at flights home for the party and within 20 minutes i had found paris orly to southampton for 68€ each. Booked it immediately so a nice job done. Spoke to simon evans and got quotes for wintering at his yard at migennes which has good access to paris so ideal. It had been a very productive couple of hours. I had even persuaded the crew to do her washing. It was hung out to dry by 7 and by 9 we had a clearing storm come in. It rained all evening and the crew mentioned that she was not sure it had been sensible to wash so late in the day, regardless of the unexpected but actually welcomed clearing storm. I had some quiet time!

We were not overly hungry in the evening and settled for merguez hotdogs and a few beers. It was still very hot despite the rain and it was proving so very difficult to limit our intake, so we didn't.
