Wednesday 8th August Port sur Soane

We strolled into town for bread and croissant. It was another stonker of a day and the town looked particularly nice as we left the marina to walk on the opposite bank from the town quay where we had moored the first night here. A very nice spot!

I have heard of dinghy wheels but this was stretching it. I was sure I had seen this in a James bond movie but Collette told me I was an idiot. Fair enough!

I re fitted the rear top canopy for some shade over the poop. We breakfasted late into the morning. Collettes ducks turned up. She is starting to remind me of the feed the birds lady in Mary poppins, but obviously a younger version. She even put her feet into the viper filled lock water as she practically hand fed her brood of 5 babies, all the time with mummy duck watchful as ever over proceedings.

I did a few fixing chores round the boat and Collette made another cushion cover, quite the seamstress these days. I managed to throw her sunglasses over the side in another Andrew FW moment much to the crews amusement.

Lunch was last nights pork in baguettes with ice cold kronenburgs.

We strolled over to the festival where the Moroccans were kicking up rough with a right old cacophony of camel stretched drums and those recorders that sound like strangled bazooka. A bit like those things you made at school with a comb and some tracing paper. Bloody racket really. At least they hadn't brought any snake charmers! The French Guadeloupe were groovy and we bopped with everyone else. Great fun!

Collette was treated to an ice cream and we continued on into town as she was going for an outrageous hair colour whilst she felt she could get away with it. It has been applied and is changing my women as I write. I am awaiting the screams of horror any minute!

We sat and watched the Ukrainians who happened to be doing a couple of hours in the baking heat and were teaching participating audience some moves. We moved on stopping to buy 4 artisan flavoured charcuterie porks for a bargain 15euros. Hung, they will last us the rest of the trip and the noix one is a crew firm favourite to have with drinks.

I have just finished my 1664 and am now gonna mix a large ice cold Gin and tonic as it is 6.15 and it is 84degrees and just seems the right thing to do! It may also help with the shock of the hair result!

The hair was a raging success as was the stir fry I produced. Onions garlic and fresh ginger fried off added the pork cut up real thin and finished with quartered plum cherry tomatoes and haricot beans with a cheating schezuan sauce and medium noodles. Washed down with Prosecco. Very happy with that whilst listening to the cute Taiwanese wowing the packed audience.. We were seduced and slipped back over for a closer look, but on arrival the 9 piece Uzbekistan group took the stage and the dance troop hit the floor. A magnificent hour of culture. The lead dancer did this 8 minute dance where she never left a 2ft square mat. It was bloody brilliant! They made about 6 costume changes during the hour and had put so much work into it. Uzbekistan.....10points.

Been sat on this mooring for 3days and have just realised I am staring straight at the bow of a gulf star. White hull and no lady brenade on the stern which has thrown me but sure enough there it is. Obviously an older model than the lady and not sure about the white hull. Took some snaps to email to Smedlar.

An early night in preparation of our arrivals tomorrow. Very excited! The crew is beside herself! ( not sure how she does that but ......)
